Sunken Treasure
Gold nuggets, bars and a selection of coins which lay on the ocean floor for over one hundred and forty years will go on sale at Sotheby's in New York in December 1999. The gold is part of the cargo carried by the SS Central America which sank off the East coast of the United States in 1857 laden with gold mined in the Californian goldrush of the nineteenth century.
