Crime
The FBI
announced this summer that violent crime fell again in 2011, continuing the stunning 47-percent drop from 1991 to 2010. Maybe most surprising, criminal violence dropped every year from 2006 to 2011, right through the Great Recession – even though historically, economic downturns have resulted in more robberies, assaults, and murders. Since 1991, murders have fallen by half, robberies by 56 percent, and assaults by 42 percent.
