Watergate
Nixon Administration (R)
The cover up of a “bugging” and burglary at the Democratic Party National Headquarters at the Watergate Hotel by President Richard Nixon and his staff resulted in 69 government officials being charged and 48 pleading guilty. The House of Representatives approved the articles of impeachment of Nixon for obstruction of justice, abuse of power and defiance of committee subpoena. He resigned from office in August 1974.
