Oregon Trail (1985)
Though originally developed in 1971 (!!!) it was the 1985 version that first made it into the classrooms and computer labs of America’s schools. Using the text-based style of “Zork” along with the increased graphic ability of personal computers, OT provided an experience that was both educational and entertaining. The use of video games to teach anything from history to foreign language, from typing to flying a jet was suddenly clear…as long as you could avoid dysentery.
