4) Miller’s Crossing - 1990
Gross $5,080,409
The Coen Brothers somewhat neglected third film had the misfortune of being the “other gangster” film the same year as Goodfellas (and both famously had the misfortune of squaring off against Dances with Wolves come award season). The beautifully and elegiac film traces the path of an Irish gangster who relies on his wits more than a gun as he gets caught in a war between his pigheaded boss (and best friend), an equally stubborn Italian gangster. Like most Coen Bros films, the plot is wonderfully labyrinthine and the “Oh Danny Boy”, sequence will never stop being awesome.
