House Fires
The number of house fires dropped by almost 60 percent from 1977 to 2011, and the number of deaths from home fires has been cut by more than half. Key to the reduction? Better fire safety education, better fire codes and enforcement, and more use of smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and fire-safe products, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
