Pokemon (1996)
C'mon, you knew this was coming. Mention the word "Pokemon" to anyone who grew up in the '90s and watch as their eyes glaze over in fond remembrance of Red & Blue on the original Game Boy. This unassuming little Japanese role-playing game spawned a huge franchise of trading cards, toys, comics and, yes, the wonderfully campy TV show. Its popularity in the schoolyard led to the childhood version of water-cooler talk: there were always secrets to be discovered and battles to be won (provided of course that you chose Charmander first).
