Tetris (1989)
While the game was actually created in 1984, the Soviet import didn’t really become a cultural force in the United States until the Nintendo Game Boy version was released in 1989 and widened the market. No longer was the video game the province of just adolescent boys. While the kids played “Mortal Combat” on the TV, mom and dad could sit back, Gameboys in hand, and play a maddeningly addictive moving puzzle…for hours.
