The Secret of Monkey Island (1990)

Yes, there were definitely graphical point-and-click adventures out there before Guybrush Threepwood announced his burning desire to become a pirate. But it was the critically acclaimed “Monkey Island” that defined a generation of fun, tongue-in-cheek adventures with maddening puzzles. If there was no “Monkey Island,” there may not have been a “Sam and Max,” or a “Broken Sword,” or even a “Grim Fandango.” And that's just not a world I'm willing to live in.
