Jared Leto – Chapter 27

Even in the ‘90s, Leto battled to be taken seriously as a real actor despite his boy band looks, his TV show beginnings and his rock-star side-hustle. While putting on a lot of weight to play John Lennon’s killer seems like the sort of thing real actors do, it generally helps if the movie is any good at all.

For a much better time, it’s often forgotten that “Fight Club” was actually a bit of a commercial flop, and that director David Fincher spent a few films wandering in the wilderness before coming back with “Zodiac,” “The Social Network” and “House of Cards.” “Panic Room” is an underrated little thriller made during this period in which Leto’s dreamy eyes are used to good effect as a corn-rowed hoodlum terrorizing Jodie Foster and a very young Kristen Stewart.
