Julia Roberts – Mary Reilly
For more than three decades, Roberts has been epitomized a certain type of breezy Southern charm. Within that framework, she has proven that she can do quality work. But if there’s one thing Roberts can’t do, it’s accents. There are a great number of other things wrong with this retelling of the Jekyll and Hyde story, but first and foremost is her Irish brogue.
For a much better time, George Clooney’s directorial debut, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” is wonderfully unhinged (thanks to a script by Charlie Kaufman) and Roberts seems to be having a grand old time playing a Cold War double agent complete with trench coat and wide-brimmed fedora.
