Sally Hawkins – Cassandra’s Dream

Since her offbeat role in Mike Leigh’s “Happy Go Lucky,” Hawkins has been the go-to girl for a certain sort of awkward charm. Following “Match Point” some cineastes hoped that Woody Allen might have found a late-life career change as a director of thrillers. The cast with Hawkins, Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell was promising but the final product fell with a thud.

For a much better time, watch Hawkins in the quiet dystopian sci-fi film “Never Let Me Go,” in which she plays a teacher at a boarding school where three teenagers discover that everything is not quite as it seems.
