Sandra Bullock – Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
For some inexplicable reason, pouring praise on Bullock has become a trend in recent years. This is an actresses whose filmography includes such winners as “The Net,” “Two if by Sea,” “Speed 2,” “Hope Floats,” “Forces of Nature,” “Two Weeks Notice,” “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,” “Miss Congeniality 2,” “The Lake House” and “The Proposal.” She is also responsible for two of the most recent completely regrettable Oscar missteps (the white guilt inspired wins of “Crash” and “The Blindside”). But nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is more galling than this attempt to make a sentimental movie about an emotionally disturbed boy on 9/11.
For a much better time, Bullock manages to be appropriately buttoned down and nerdy as Harper Lee in “Infamous,” the Capote film that didn’t star Philip Seymour Hoffman.
