Reese Witherspoon stars as a troubled woman who attempts to escape a tragedy by going on an 1,100-mile solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. Witherspoon, Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallee and screenwriter Nick Hornby are all said to deliver some of their best work, elevating the film above the “woman’s voyage of self discovery” clichés. Expect Witherspoon to rack up another nomination for this.
