Following his surprisingly effective performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love, Sandler seemed to retreat from the idea of being a serious actor and returned to the shtick that made him famous. Director Jason Reitman (son of Ghostbusters director Ivan) has convinced him to give it another go. Examining the way that media permeates our life is one of the central preoccupations of the modern age. Whether or not Reitman and Sandler can add to that conversation remains to be seen.
