In many cases, when a sports stadium is torn down, it's still not paid for. The cities that host big sports teams delude themselves into thinking that major league sports will bring in the tourists -- and the big bucks from business. But that doesn't begin to pay for the hefty costs of building state-of-the-art arenas that are rarely used. Even the $542 million over ten years in tax-exempt bonds provided by the IRS doesn't help much.
