13. Star Trek: Beyond (July 22, Paramount Pictures)
Now that J.J. Abrams has left for Star Wars, the reigns of that other space franchise has been turned over to Justin Lin of The Fast and the Furious and Community fame. Trekkers are already up in arms, as they feel that their cerebral show has been overtaken by the whiz-bang requirements of franchise film making. The reaction to the Beastie Boys sound-track on the trailer was particularly venomous. Lin has a particular challenge on his hands, keeping the diehards happy while not alienating a mass audience uninterested in hard sci-fi.
